  1. #37 Best Private K-12 Schools in CaliforniaSacramento Country Day SchoolSacramento, CA·Private School·PK, K-12·Rating 4.15 out of 5 27 reviewsParent: Our children have had a great experience at Sacramento Country Day School. Everyone from the faculty, staff, administration, sports, arts , facilities, etc. are welcoming, engaging and focused on the needs of the child and meeting the child where they are. It is a small school which has limited sports teams, however, because of that kids who didn't grow up playing baseball or soccer in grammar school can join and get to play in high school. The arts are supported and encouraged. Also because of the small class size the kids get to know others and not just stick to their own "group". It encourages hanging out with kids that they wouldn't hang out with at a larger school and learning about different cultures, ethnicities, etc.... 2. #75 Best Private K-12 Schools in CaliforniaSacramento Waldorf SchoolFair Oaks, CA·Private School·PK, K-12·Rating 4.31 out of 5 48 reviewsSenior: These teachers are some of the most committed, loving, and dedicated educators you'll find, many with quite a bit of expertise too. Countless teachers in the HS have PhDs. The school is very committed to striving to serve each student, meeting them where they're at, but that striving is not without some failures. It struggles to serve students with severe learning challenges, and goes through bouts of having better and worse ESL teachers. The school has definitely made progress in the years I've been here with setting and meeting new DEI goals; they've diversified the perspectives included in at least the HS curriculum, have put new protocols in place for dealing with bias incidents, and have gotten the Student Council involved in reviewing the school culture with the admin's Equity Committee. The HS may not have APs, but I've gotten a rigorous education that I wouldn't trade for anything. This school teaches you to be an independent thinker, and that's a priceless gift.... We have been lucky enough to have had almost every teacher at the school. They have all been excellent. Riverview is a small school with only 60 students per grade and has a lottery system to get in. The teachers were absolutely amazing during distance learning. I will be forever grateful for their hard work during that stressful time. My Son has since gone to middle school and, after his first trimester, asked to be transferred to honors classes because of how well he was prepared for middle school. All of the teachers have a strong emphasis on math and science in their activities. Every child deserves to have these types of amazing teachers in their lives. We have had a wonderful experience at Riverview and are very sad our last child will soon be to old to attend. It will be hard to say goodbye.... As transplants to the area, I feel we may have gotten lucky finding such a great school on our first attempt. On our first campus tour the principal Mrs Hale made us feel welcome and that feeling has persisted ever since. As a small school there is a cordial sense of community among the parents and staff that could be described as family. Our youngest child will join his older sibling next autumn when he enters TK. Despite not yet being a student he has already met a number of students and faculty at various events and he cannot wait to join SJV. Our son who is now in 3rd grade matriculated at kindergarten. It was an easy transition and has loved the school ever since. The teachers and administrators are amazing! The kids are very close and supportive of each other from TK to 8th grade. It is a very positive environment. Even though most commute to the school from different areas we still feel very connected. It is a community of learning, care, service and support. We started our daughter in TK this year. I was nervous with her being only 4 years old. She adjusted after just one day and loves her classmates. The school is academically challenging but does not overload the kids with unnecessary work. The many events and activities provide great socializing opportunities with other families. The afterschool care is essential for us. The kids have so much fun. All of our children have thrived academically and spiritually. From the leadership in the school with our principal, Ms. Allen, all the way through each teacher and staff member, the investment in the success of the students is evident. There are some parents who don't want their children held accountable, and this school is not for them. And neither is life in the real world. Students are treated with fairness and respect, and are cherished and encouraged to grow from the mistakes and poor choices we all make at that age. I am proud my children are a part of this community.
